CLOTHING LABELS

Want to grab your
customer’s attention?
Create a well designed custom product label
that can help influence your sales, repeat sales and referrals.
When you’ve put the time and energy into creating a quality product,
nothing finishes the job quite like a quality label. Once the item
is sold, that label represents you just as much as the product
itself. Making the right choice is an important business decision.
However, in the
case of printed clothing labels or woven clothing labels , they are
important but not necessarily the first thing noticed and once worn,
people rarely look at the tag stitched inside their shirts or pants.
But clothing labels
serve a practical purpose. They help your customer determine the
clothing size, fabric composition and the proper washing methods.
The FTC actually requires the manufacturers and importers of textile
wearing apparel and certain piece goods to attach tags stating the
regular rules for care of the product. It’s important to use
clothing labels so that your customers know that your clothing meets
certain standards, how your product can be maintained and what
country the fabric has been imported from.
What are labels made out of?
Labels are made out of many different kinds of materials - satin
coated acetate which has a shiny finish and is flexible and durable,
cotton, polyester and nylon. Clothing that has labels woven into it
are usually made out of the taffeta, satin or semi-damask or damask.
Although one inch by two inch or 1/2 inch by one inch rectangle
shaped labels are the norm, the size of the label also depends on
the size of the clothing is it being placed on and your
imagination!
Your clothing labels must be easily visible. If your label is not
easy to, additional instructions should be added to the package so
that your customer can see what type of care is required. Your
labels must be permanently attached to stay on the fabric for the
life of the product, without fading or discoloration. The
maintenance instructions on your product label should apply to the
most delicate piece of fabric on the product.
Each label must give the following information:
-
The generic name of the fiber
-
The name of the manufacturer or
a registered identification number or trade mark
-
The percent of each fiber in
the fabric listed in order of its predominance by weight. If a
particular fiber is five percent or less, it may be designated
as ‘other fiber’
-
The country of origin
(important because certain pieces of clothing vary in price
based on where the fabric comes from, cost of inspections and
taxes, or buyers may wish to buy or boycott fabrics made in
certain countries.)
-
Color fastness
-
The wash temperature and
whether items need to be hand washed.
-
Use “Dry clean only” if any of
the materials on the product cannot be put in a washing
machine. If you are not certain what type of labeling is
necessary, test the fabric by washing it yourself.
There are two different types of clothing Labels:
Printed clothing
labels and woven clothing labels. Although less expensive, as
printed labels get washed or skin oils react with the print, the
print fades. This defeats the purpose of your label.
Your second choice is a woven label. Woven clothing labels are a
better choice for you if you are interested in durability, quality
and permanence. We offer four different kinds of
fabrics
in woven labels: Satin, Taffeta, Semi-Damask
and Damask.·
-
Satin:
Satin is a smooth fabric woven with a glossy face and a dull
back. It is pretty, but thin and easily snags.
-
Taffeta:
A crisp, smooth, plain-woven fabric with a slight sheen made of
various fibers, such as silk, rayon, or nylon. Stiffer than
satin it is less likely to snag. However, with both satin and
taffeta the finished edges of the labels can be stiff, which
causes the neck rash prickly feeling some labels are
unfortunately known for and are more likely to be cut out of the
garment.
-
Semi-damask:
A middle of the road choice when it comes to labels. It has many
of the qualities of damask at a lower price.
-
Damask:
A rich patterned fabric with a tighter weave that remains very
soft, even with finished edges. It’s the best label to choose if
you want a smoothness that reflects comfort and if quality is
your top priority.
Choose your style:
Once you’ve decided
on label fabric, you will need to choose the
style
that allows you the most flexibility and that works best for you:
Folded, End Fold or All Ends Finished.
-
Folded:
The folded style (either side folding or bottom folding label)
ensures there is no raw back showing and has room for care
instructions.
-
End Fold:
End fold labels must be tacked down on the ends. However, this
method is not flexible enough for smaller businesses and lacks a
masterful look.
-
All Ends Finished:
You will have the most flexibility by ordering labels that are
finished on all sides with enough seam allowance to be used in a
plethora of different ways.
These labels are manufactured using huge broadlooms, needle looms,
and double and single shuttle looms to make top quality clothing
labels which come off of the looms in a ribbon like form. Then they
are
cut and
sealed so the threads do not fray.
Low Minimums:
We have a very low minimum order requirement (150 on average). Turnaround time is
about 2-4 weeks depending on the label. If you need them faster,
there is a rush service charge to get them here in a week and a
half.
